Position Summary: Manage and provide professional human resource support for all staff and volunteers. Including the ability to assist the Executive Vice President & CFO and President & CEO in determining and implementing an organizational structure that promotes a culture to advance our mission, and uses our guest centric operating model, guiding principles, and our strong desire to actively engaged in efforts to ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging in staff, volunteers, members, and guests. Strategic human resources planning, culture development and perpetuation, and the liaison for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for all staff and volunteers.

Essential Functions:
- Provide leadership, support, and guidance to members of the Human Resources & Volunteers department.
- Lead the administration of all human resource and volunteer programs including, but not limited to, payroll, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters, employee terminations, and exit interviews; disputes and investigations; performance reviews, succession planning, and talent management; recognition and morale; occupational health and safety; training and development; recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention; enrichment and wellness activities; diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives.
- Collaborate with Executive Vice President & CFO and President & CEO to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention, and interface with department heads to understand their staffing needs.
- Take the lead role in managing and administrating our relationship with a third-party vendor specializing in diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging initiatives.
- Propose and implement recruiting and hiring strategies to attract employees from diverse backgrounds.
- Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Evaluate and recommend best practices utilizing resources such as American Associations of Museums, Association of Public Gardens, legal counsel, and other professionals.
- Ensure compliance with policies for all background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle record checks through work with service providing vendors.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; communicate policy changes and recommendations to Executive Vice President & CFO and President & CEO.
- Provide ongoing support and advice to all managers and employees regarding human resource matters.
Maintain responsibility for organizational needs and policy development for all areas of volunteerism.
- Participate in and provide oversight to Volunteer Services Committee, ensure volunteer representation from all areas of the organization, and appropriate volunteer tenure on committee.
- Propose and manage the Human Resources & Volunteers departmental budget.
- Attend Board of Director meetings, serve as a staff member on Board Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee, and other Board-established committees as requested.
- Participate in the Management Team and Safety Committee, lead the Learning & Development Team, manage all aspects of monthly All-Staff meetings, and participate in any other internal or external meetings as necessary.
- Maintain quality communications and organizational skills; meet deadlines.
- Maintain internal policy documents, forms, and templates; manage HRIS and relevant upgrades.
- Act as a liaison for the organization and share and distribute relevant information to staff.
- Ensure continuation of departmental functions by covering for staff leaves, absences, and vacancies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President & CFO.

Education and/or qualifications preferred:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Advanced human resources training.
Experience: At least seven years of supervisory experience and five years of human resource management experience. Three years of experience with diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging programs.
Skills/Knowledge/Licenses: Proven ability to implement and manage the activities described above. Ability to work with discretion and confidentiality. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including cultural competency and ability to understand and advocate for the needs of diverse individuals. Must have leadership and management skills to lead Human Resources & Volunteers department staff. Proficiency in Human Resource
Information Systems (HRIS) and Microsoft Office suite. SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
Working Conditions: Regular office environment; occasional assignment to off-shift or weekend duties. Requires ability to operate computer/CRT and other office equipment, plus mobility in office, grounds and exhibit areas and ability to lift to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
