The independent organized and highly motivated Family Engagement and Stabilization Coordinator is responsible for working with families and children in their homes and other community places to support families in fostering safe, healthy and nurturing environments. The FESC will have knowledge of the issues faced (e.g. housing, employment, childhood development) and use evidence-based practices assess, support and refer for services.
The person in this role will work closing with our community partner United Methodist Church House and be housed out of their child care facility. This person will create and implement monthly events for children and families enrolled at UMCH that enhance the parent-child connection, children's developmental skills, and foster a connection to United Methodist Community House. Also provide oversight of BSW and MSW internship students in partnership with the UMCH Child Development Director and serve as a board member for the UMCH Family Advisory Council (Parents As Partners).
Our Ideal Candidate will:
Conduct developmental screening and assessments on young children
Providing families with developmentally appropriate activities and information designed to enhance the child's intellectual, social-emotional, motor, and language abilities
Assist with recruiting and enrolling eligible families
Support families in obtaining the knowledge and skills to support their child’s healthy development
Responsible to work with families in their home
Provide best practice programming for economic mobility (employment) and housing and basic needs stabilization services
Provide information on community and agency services and referring families to community resources
Assist families with access to basic needs, health, academic, housing and childcare needs
Create, Assess, Evaluate and Modify Housing Plans and Stabilization goals with all families
Participate in organization meetings, trainings and other initiatives.
Additional duties as needed to support agency.
Work Environment:
Work is performed on site, client location and/or other partner community location.
Lifting of materials of up to 15 pounds may be necessary.
Driving is a requirement of the position, must have a valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record.
Job may require working occasional evenings and weekends.
Job will require driving throughout the Grand Rapids community to meet with families.
Education and Experience Required:
Masters in Human Services related field (Early Childhood Development, Social Work, Family Counseling)
Early Childhood Development Work Experience or Education
Bilingual (preferred)
Presents familiarity of working with families and children
Demonstrates comfort in a faith base organization
Demonstrate the ability to work with a culturally diverse population
Identifies with evidence-based case management practices
Must have excellent communication skills, including both written and verbal communications
Must be able to work independently, as well as effectively within a team
Must be able to work well with colleagues, board members, volunteers and community members
Must be detail oriented and able to follow through on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment
Must be proficient in Microsoft office products and Google suite of products.
Full Time, non-exempt position. Approximately 40 hours per week. Reports to the Director of Stabilization Services.
