Disability Advocates of Kent County is seeking a Youth Transition Specialist to join our dynamic and dedicated organization of experienced and knowledgeable staff. Our Youth Transition Specialists describe their job as fulfilling, by preparing youth with disabilities for the various transitions in life. This is a Full-time, 40-hour/week, non-exempt, position starting at a wage of approximately $16-$18 per hour with full-time benefits including a generous paid time off plan, Medical, Dental and vision insurance plans, short and long-term disability. The Youth Transition Specialist will provide career preparation services for Vocational Rehabilitation Agency customers and other people with disabilities who are working toward achieving their employment and educational goals.
Position Summary
This position provides resources and training to ensure the achievement of employment, independent living, and educational goals as established by customers, Disability Advocates of Kent County staff or in coordination with other community partners. These services will be provided individually and with small groups in school settings.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or at least 3 years of related work experience with youth and transition to employment. Creativity a plus!
• One to three years’ experience in providing assistance to individuals and organizations on Independent Living, transition-to-work, or employment issues.
• Knowledge of community resources in the Kent County area.
• One year of experience working with people with disabilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook and training and/or facilitation skills.
Work Environment and Abilities
The person in this position is expected to communicate with co-workers, assigned interns, volunteers, community partners and other outside entities to successfully perform functions of the job. This is a standard office environment. Extensive keyboard activity, telephone communication and attendance at meetings, presentations, and community outreach in and out of the office are expected. Self-identified mode of transportation is required. Local travel will represent 25% of the position.
