The organized, self-motivated, professional in this position is responsible to the support the Human Resource function for the entire organization in the following areas: employee relations, training, employment, recruitment and onboarding, benefits administration, and leave administration. Open to a flexible and fluid work environment.
Knowledge and skills needed for this role include: exhibit professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the organization and is consistent with the organization's policies and practices. Prior work experience and knowledge of Human Resources principles, employment laws, employee relations, hiring practices and HRIS. Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
Our Ideal Candidate will:
Work with Hiring Manager and COO to carry-out successful recruiting strategies to meet the staffing needs of the organization. Facilitate the pre-employment process and provide assistance to Management in candidate interviewing/selection.
Work within HRIS system (BambooHR) and employee personnel files to maintain accurate employee records. Handle/oversee ongoing Human Resource administration/paperwork and establish system that provides efficient access to pertinent information.
Establish and manage leave programs to ensure eligibility; monitor employee use of time and communicate with employees and management regarding use of time. (FMLA)
Ensure compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, including; periodically audit Forms I-9. Complete governmental and other surveys as needed.
Assist with day to day administration of employee benefit plans (health and dental insurance; short term and long term disability; life insurance and AD&D; AFLAC; and 401k). Ensuring eligibility and enrollment for employees. Ensure compliance with employee education and notices for all employee benefit plans.
Assist with employee recognition and engagement programs, communication tools and special events/functions.
Facilitates a smooth new hire onboarding process by ensuring new hires have completed onboarding prior to start date; follow up on incomplete tasks when needed.
Provide effective, responsive, and dedicated Human Resources customer service to employees’ inquiries and concerns in relation to absence and health issues, conduct and capability, grievance matters, organizational change, and all other employee-relations matters.
Write position descriptions for salaried and hourly positions.
Participate and attend administrative staff and cross-functional meetings.
Conducts verifications of employment.
Assist with employee termination, resignations, and retirements.
Respond to unemployment claims.
Ensures all labor postings are up to date at all locations.
Provides effective guidance and coaching to managers/supervisors, relating to employee concerns, problems, and disciplinary action in compliance with company policies.
Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the Human Resources department and services performed.
Maintain accurate records for compliance reporting.
Perform all job responsibilities in compliance with applicable regulations, standard operating procedures, and industry practice.
Increase level of knowledge through attendance at professional education events.
Additional duties as needed to support the organization.
Work Environment:
Work is performed on site at Family Promise offices and locations throughout the Grand Rapids community.
Lifting of materials of up to 15 pounds may be necessary.
Job may require working occasional evenings and weekends.
Education and Experience Required:
Prior work experience and knowledge of Human Resource principles, employment laws, employee relations, hiring practices, and HRIS.
Associates degree in Human Resources related degree, 2 years of related work experience or other equivalent education and work experience.
Comfortable working in a faith based environment.
Proficiency in both written and verbal communication and presentations.
Energetic, self-motivated, organized individual who is accustomed to working in a deadline-focused, high-pressure entrepreneurial environment.
Creative and open-minded individual who fosters an environment in which sharing of ideas is encouraged.
Portrays appropriate levels of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Ability to communicate effectively with management and staff.
Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office package.
Ability to manage multiple projects at once with no decline in quality control.
Must be detail oriented and able to execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment.
Strong problem solving skills with the ability to see full scope of problem/project to diagnose core issues then generate, evaluate and implement solutions.
Comfortable using google suite, Microsoft Office, Excel and other professional business systems.
Full Time, non-exempt position. Approximately 40 hours per week. Reports to the COO. No direct employee supervision.
