SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing vision, leadership and overall direction for Housing and Residence Life through management of residence facilities, programs and processes to intentionally create a safe, comfortable and educationally purposeful environments focused on student learning and development. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating both professional staff and student staff. Recommends strategy for, implements and manages the department and the programming model to address the intellectual, emotional, social, physical, spiritual, cultural and vocational needs of all students.
- Gathers input from staff and faculty to create mutually supportive programs.
- Administer budgets for department including programming funds and training funds.
- Responsible for development of department initiatives, creation of learning communities, student leadership development and retention efforts
- Direct and oversee all residence hall facilities including, safety and security measures, and building maintenance and custodial, policies and programs with appropriate University departments to insure the mission and strategic initiatives of the University are being met.
- Manages and directs billing, room assignments, student break stays as well as building opening and closings.
- Develop and update departmental materials and communication pieces including but not limited to housing contracts, residence handbook, staff training & procedure manuals, public relations pieces, conference and summer camp usage/procedures, and website.
- Serves on the student judicial committee. This includes serving as the hearing officer for judicial appeals, adjudicating hearings or referring cases to the judicial board.
- Process student and parent/guardian complaints. .
- Represent Residence Life, working collaboratively with other University departments, students, parents, and the community
- Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
- Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
- Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or comparable field preferred.
• Four or more years of progressively responsible experience in residence life.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in hiring, managing and supervising staff
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
• Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• High level of professionalism.
• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
• Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). Some travel between locations required (own transportation).
• No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
